About the Stuffed Air fryer onion rings recipe | Mozzarella Stick Onion Rings

With this Air fried method, it’s finally possible to eat crunchy, crispy onion rings without swimming in oil!

There’s nothing better than an air fryer recipe because it turns out so crispy and is so easy. The air fryer uses less oil, produces fewer calories from fat, and takes less time to use. Why wouldn’t you love it?

But even the deep-fried version is so tasty and crunchy that you gonna love it. Once in a while, we can enjoy this delicious snack.

The air fryer version of onion rings looks like a pale imitation of fried onion rings, but this recipe recreates that classic delight in an impressive way.

Onion rings cooked in the air fryer come out incredibly crunchy and crave-worthy, without being laden with fat or calories like deep-fried onion rings.

Ingredients

  • 2 Big – Onion (Take out big and small raw rings)
  • 1 cup – Mozzarella cheese/ Vegan Mozzarella cheese if vegan
  • 1/2 cup – Refined flour
  • 1/2 cup – Cornflour
  • 1/2 cup – Rice flour
  • 1 cup – Panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp – Red chilly powder
  • Salt
  • Water

Onion – We need a big onion in order to get large rings

Flour – With a simple flour dredge, you add flavor to your onions and also make sure they stay coated. So we took rice flour to make it extra crispy, cornflour to bind well, and any refined or tapioca flour. Take your choice.

Water or vegan milk – Take anything vegan or plain milk or water which will help to stick.

Panko Bread crumbs – Unlike bread crumbs, Panko breadcrumbs are significantly more crunchy when coated. Of course, normal breadcrumbs also work.

Cheese – Take plain mozzarella or vegan mozzarella for that cheese to melt inside onion rings.

Other Seasoning – I used salt to taste and red chilly flakes. You can add a little black pepper powder too.

Important Suggestions To Keep In Mind

  • You will get the golden brown crunchy coating on the onion rings if you use an air fryer. Be sure to spray the rings with cooking spray thoroughly to get a nice golden brown finish.
  • Depending on the type of cooking spray you use, you may need to spray the coated onion rings first on a baking sheet before placing them in the air fryer basket.
  • Make sure you do not overcrowd the air fryer so the onion rings cook evenly. Especially if you’re doubling a recipe, it might take more than two batches of air fryers. When a batch is ready, serve it or keep it warm in the oven.
  • Make two separate mixtures of panko breadcrumbs. After the battered ring mixture gets sticky, it’s best to half it, then add the dry mixture when the first part begins to get sticky.
  • Spices other than paprika can be used instead of paprika. Cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder are all good choices.
  • The onion rings won’t need to be rotated while they’re cooking because they’ll cook evenly without it.

Storage Suggestion

For leftover onion rings, room temperature is best. If you want to freeze or reheat them later, divide them into portion-sized pieces and store them separately in a bag or container.

Additionally, they can be frozen. To freeze them, allow them to cool completely in the bag and then seal them. Consider placing parchment paper or a paper towel between them to prevent them from sticking.

Place the onions on aluminum foil and place them in the preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, keeping them covered. The onions should be baked for 10 minutes.

Serving suggestion

Air fryer onion rings are an excellent addition to fluffy pancakes, crepes, or sandwiches made with fluffy pancake batter. The sauces can be topped with whatever sauce you prefer or they can even be added to sandwiches.

Make sure to eat the onion rings when you make them, but if you make too many, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for two to three days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness should onion rings be sliced?

In this recipe, the rings are cut into pieces about 1/2 inch thick. During the frying process, they may not get cooked through if you make them too large. If you make them a little thin, you need to cook them for a shorter amount of time.

When making onion rings, what kind of onions are best?

Our family loves to use red sweet onions. But you can use any onions of your choice. With any kind of onion, it will taste great.
