Hello everyone! This is Sanchita with Pinch of Flavours. The recipe I have for you today is another Christmas cookie recipe!
This recipe for grinch cookies is just about as festive and holiday-friendly as you can imagine! Cookies that are soft and chewy are decorated with milk chocolate candy pieces and are colored Grinch-green.
You probably already know about the classic Christmas cookie lineup. It’s no secret that you like to eat sugary sugar cookies and cinnamon sugared Snickerdoodles, but have you ever had a GRINCH COOKIE grace your holiday cookie tray?
There is definitely something different about these cookies compared to the classics. Because of their Grinch-like green tint and their red and green candy decorations, you are not going to mistake them for regular cookies and you are not going to forget them, either.
Due to their bright green color, we think these cookies are prepared in a fancy way. It is just a regular easy sugar cookie, which is a grinchy green color made with gel food coloring. A red sprinkle heart or M&M’S candies are added on top to add even more appeal.
I decorated the cookies with both red and green M&M’S, but I opted for more red, which reminded me of the Grinch’s too-small red heart.
You will need to chill these cookies in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before baking in order to prevent them from spreading too thin. This recipe can be made ahead and chilled overnight or longer, the dough can also be frozen (just make sure it is scooped into balls before freezing).
This year, if you are bringing in Halloween or Thanksgiving or Christmas, you must try these Grinch Cookies. They will take you less than 20 minutes to make. The fact that they are so easy to make also makes them a great activity for your kids.

- 1 1/2 tsp – Vanilla essence
- 2-3 drops – Green food gel coloring
- 1/2 cup – Vegan milk/ Plain milk

- 1 tsp – Baking powder
- 1 tsp – Baking soda
- 1/2 tsp – Salt
- 1 1/2 cup – Red and green M&M’S plus an additional 1/2 cup for topping cookies
All-purpose flour – This cookie’s base is made from all-purpose flour. Cookies are soft because of this flour. Add in or use other flours to add a healthy twist, but the texture and taste will differ.
Sugar – Using a combination of brown sugar and granulated sugar, these are your regular sugar cookies. These cookies were sweet and had a nice texture.
Green Gel Colour – This will give the cookies a nice vivid green color. The color should be food-grade and of high quality. You can buy the gel color online or at any baking supplies store in your area.
Heart Sprinkle or M&M’S – If you don’t have a red heart sprinkle, then use red and green M&M’S instead.
Others – In addition to the above ingredients, you will also need baking powder, baking soda, unsalted butter, salt, and vanilla extract.
For the best taste, use good quality vanilla extract. Your sugar cookies will be soft and will rise as a result of all the other ingredients.
