Description

This homemade tahini sauce is the best and it’s easy to make with just a few ingredients. But, just make sure you incorporate lemon juice, garlic, cumin, and salt and you’re good to go!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup – Seasame seeds(Hulled)
  • 2 cloves – Garlic
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp – Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp – Mayonnaise plain (Optional if making vegan)
  • 2 tbsp – Heavy cream (Optional if making vegan)
  • 1/2 tsp – Black pepper powder

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan on medium flame and dry roast sesame seeds on a wide pan till they turn lightly colored for 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Sesame seeds can burn quickly so be careful. After slightly golden brown turn off the gas and let it cool then transfer into a blender or a strong food processor.
  3. Add salt to taste, garlic cloves, and lemon juice. Grind them into a fine paste. Open the lid and check.
  4. To help the tahini turn into an extra smooth paste, we add a few tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Frequently scrape from bottom and sides and then again blend into an extra smooth paste. Use water to make it a little thin in consistency. Then again grind till smooth.
  5. Take out in a bowl and to get that extra smooth paste, you can add plain mayonnaise, heavy cream,(Optional if you are trying to make it vegan), and a little black pepper powder. whisk it nicely.
  6. Tahini sauce or paste is ready. Sprinkle a little roasted cumin powder to enhance the taste. Serve with any main dish of your choice.

Tahini Sauce Recipe

Notes

  • Tahini tastes better when made with hulled sesame seeds since unhulled sesame could make it slightly bitter.
  • To ensure the oil doesn’t overpower the entire paste, we are using extra virgin olive oil for this recipe.
  • To make sesame paste, sesame seeds are heated in a low to medium oven until they begin to brown.
  • A clean glass jar must be used to transfer the Tahini paste, and it should be stored in the refrigerator.
  • Avoid Mayonnaise or cream if making it vegan
  • Better to take a strong blender or food processor.
