How Can You Make This Vegan?

These vegan breakfast sandwiches take a small amount of time to prepare. Feel free to adjust the ingredients according to your preference and availability.

Adding nutritional yeast is great if you like the flavor of nutritional yeast. Feel free to add in extra vegetables of your choice like mushrooms, broccoli, olives, etc. Put in some kale, spinach, and fenugreek leaves to make this Indian corn recipe even more healthy.

For this recipe, you can use any bread, whether that is white, brown, multigrain, or any other variety. You can also use leftover bread that is about to go stale. You may also use sourdough bread.

You can use Kite Hill Cream Cheese which is dairy-free and I used it sometime before it for this recipe. However, plain/flavored vegan butter can also be used in replacement.

The recipe calls for a few tablespoons of cheese, but the more the better! Use any vegan cheese (sliced/shredded/grated) that melts well.

For veggies the key ingredients in this recipe are green chilies and bell peppers(optional) but you can also add frozen yellow corn. There is also the need for onions, which provide a nice crunchy flavor.

Additional flavoring can be added by adding cilantro, garlic, and green chilies/serrano peppers/jalapenos.

How To Bake, Toast, or Air fry Chili Cheese Toast?

Chilly Cheese Toast can be cooked in any number of methods: oven, air fryer, or on the stovetop.

Oven method – Pre-heat the oven at 200 degrees C(400 degrees F)for 5 minutes if you choose to prepare these delicious Chilli toast in an oven. Place all bread slices in a baking tray and bake at 400 degrees F for about 5 minutes.

While they cook, keep an eye on the toasts. Once the cheese has melted and the toast has turned light golden brown, turn off the oven and put the plates of vegetable chili cheese toast onto serving plates.

Air-Fryer method- The delicious snack is ready in 5 minutes. Bread toasted in the air fryer has a true French toast texture, with a crunchy crunch. When layered on top, whatever you like can be added. I like butter, cheese, seasoning, or whatever else seems delicious.

Mixing seasonings into butter or cheese helps avoid the air fryer from blowing seasonings all over the place when toasting bread.

You should only need about 5 minutes to toast bread in an air fryer. The length of time it takes depends on how thick the bread is and how you like it toasted. I suggest starting with 5 minutes and adding a few more minutes if you like your bread a little crisper.

Stovetop method – Put the prepared bread slices on a coated skillet turned over the lowest heat. Cover the bread slices with the lid and heat until cheese has melted and the bottom and edges are crisp.

On a Tawa, the toast would taste the same, but it would have a different appearance since toast baked in an oven will have some golden spots, while toast cooked on a pan will not have those golden spots. But then also they will taste awesome.

Ingredients 

  • 4 slices – bread of your choice
  • 30 gms – Amul garlic butter / plain butter/ vegan butter if making vegan
  • 1/2 cup – Pizza cheese grated/ vegan cheese
  • 2 tbsp – Green chilly chopped
  • 1 tsp – Red chilly Flakes
  • 1 tsp – Oregano
  • 1 tsp – Black pepper powder

Bread – No matter what kind of bread you use, whether it’s brown bread, white milk bread, or even whole wheat bread, it will taste great!

Cheese – To add some gooey goodness to the bread, I grated some processed amul cheese to it. You can use any cheese you like, but the Colby Jack, Pepper Jack, Gouda, or cheddar cheese would be delicious too. You can use vegan cheese for the vegans out there.

Seasoning – You can season the vegetable mixture with different seasonings, such as black pepper, red chili flakes, oregano and salt, depending on your taste.

Vegetables – Here I have added only green chilies chopped. You can add corns, bell peppers and coriander leaves too.

Butter – Spread a generous amount of garlic butter on the toast so that it tastes even better. Use vegan butter if making it a vegan sandwich.

How To Make Chili Cheese Toast – Air Fryer Spicy Cheese Toast Step By Step With Photo:

  1. Take a slice of bread cut into 4 slices.
  2. Take a quarter piece of bread.
  3. Apply butter on one side of the piece.
  4. Put grated processed cheese or vegan cheese on the top of the bread.
  5. Add chilly flakes, green chilly chopped, oregano, and black pepper powder.
  6. Prepare all the bread slices in a similar way.
  7. Grease Air fryer with some olive oil / plain oil.
  8. Add all the bread slices into the air fryer.
  9. Put the air fryer on 350 degrees F for 4 minutes.
  10. Chilly cheese toast is ready.

Important Suggestion To Keep In Mind

  • If you are using roasted chilies, you might want to be careful how many you use per slice.
  • I have used white sandwich bread for this recipe, but you may substitute other bread slices instead. However, if you intend to make this toast often, you may want to swap out the white sandwich for rye loaf bread slices or multi-grain bread slices.
  • It will be spicier if you add some ground black pepper, though.
  • This cheese toast tastes amazing when made with grated paneer. If you are not vegan, use Amul cheese when making it.
  • I like to toast slices of bread with garlic olive oil, a healthy and tasty variation of garlic butter. Simply add minced garlic to extra virgin olive oil and then toast it.
  • The recipe uses salted butter, but margarine can also be substituted for a lighter flavor.
  • Combine the cheese, butter, and pepper in advance and chill it in the refrigerator so you can make chili cheese toast whenever you feel like it.
  • Vegetables such as onions, olives, and sweet corn can be added.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these buttery cheese toasts immediately out-of-the-oven. Top with oregano and crushed red pepper flakes if you prefer a spicy kick. There are some non-alcoholic drinks that pair well with the snack, depending upon the season. Wine is amazing with it, but here are some non-alcoholic beverages that go great together.

You can also serve it with some vegan mayo, chutney, or ketchup on the side as a side dish. The bread sandwiches may be served as they are or cut in triangles. You may cut them as breadsticks. You may also serve them as regular sandwiches instead of open-faced ones.

Storage Suggestion

Possibly up to three days before you need to serve, the chilly or bell peppers mixture can be prepared ahead. It can also be frozen.
These taste best when they’re fresh, so store them in the fridge. Reheat and serve as needed.

However, if you do have leftovers, store them in the fridge.
